Anaka Alankamony was the only Indian to reach the quarter-finals of the British Open junior squash championship held in Sheffield from 1-6 January 2012.

In her quarterfinal match Anaka lost to lower ranked Egyptian Salma Esmat in straight. Earlier, Anaka defeated Victoria Temple-Murray of England 12-10, 11-9, 11-8.

The other Indians fell to higher ranked opponents. Second seeded Mohamed Abou El Ghar (Egypt) beat Mangaonkar 11-7, 11-7 11-5, while Pakistan`s Syed Ali Bukhari eliminated Kush Kumar 11-7, 11-9, 10-12, 11-9 and No.2 Emily Whitlock defeated Aparajitha 11-8, 11-2 11-1.
